    Objective

    The objective of the awards program is to recognize and celebrate excellence in the work of CAHP members and promote understanding and appreciation of our cultural heritage.

    Eligibility

    • Only CAHP members and intern members may submit entries.
    • Projects and work submissions are to have been completed between 2004 and 2010. Submissions are not to include works in progress.
    • A CAHP member must have played a significant role in the project.

    Awards Presentation

    • all submissions are to be sent by 5:00 pm Friday, July 23, 2010
    • the awards presentation location, date and time will be announced at a later date.
    • winning submissions will be published in the e-forum
    • selected submissions will be exhibited on the CAHP web site.

    Categories

    1. Craftsmanship Award: recognizing specialized restoration skills and expertise in traditional construction technologies

      Entry Requirements
      Description: Identify material or technology preserved. Describe historic background of project, conservation issues, restoration process, methods and procedures, and other relevant information (max. 1000 words)

      Colour Photographs: provide 4 - 10 photographs sufficient to describe the project. Include at least one ‘before restoration’ photograph.

    2. Preservation of Heritage Building or Complex: honours outstanding demonstrations of preservation techniques and principles in the restoration of a building or complex.

      Entry Requirements
      Description: Identify location, use, historic background and cultural significance of project. Describe conservation issues, restoration process, methods and procedures and other relevant information (max. 1000 words)

      Colour Photographs: provide 4 - 10 photographs sufficient to describe the project. Include at least one ‘before restoration’ photograph.

    3. Adaptive Reuse Project: recognizes exceptional projects that integrate new use(s) into a heritage building or complex.

      Entry Requirements
      Description: Identify location, historic background and cultural significance of project. Provide an explanation why the original building use cannot be sustained. Describe the appropriateness of the new use, continued relevance of the heritage component, conservation issues, revitalization process, methods and procedures and other relevant information (max. 1000 words)

      Drawings: provide drawings as required to describe the project (max. 6)

      Colour Photographs: provide 4 - 10 photographs sufficient to describe the project. Include at least one ‘before restoration’ photograph.

    4. Preservation of Heritage Landscape: celebrates the conservation of a significant heritage landscape.

      Entry Requirements
      Description: Identify location, historic background and cultural significance of project. Describe conservation issues, restoration process, methods and procedures and other relevant information (max. 1000 words)

      Drawings: provide drawings as required to describe the project (max. 4)

      Colour Photographs: provide 4 - 10 photographs sufficient to describe the project. Include at least one ‘before restoration’ photograph.

    5. Heritage Planning: recognizes excellence in heritage conservation and land use planning.

      Entry Requirements
      Description: Summarize location, objectives and recommendations of the project. Identify significant challenges and means of resolution. Discuss unique distinguishing features of the methodology , approach and/or content of this study (max. 1000 words).

      Drawings: provide drawings as required to describe the project (max. 4)

      Colour Photographs: provide 4-10 photographs sufficient to describe and the project)

      Documentation: provide three (3) copies of the report or other documentation. (Please advise Awards Coordinator if this request is not feasible).

    6. Heritage Communication: celebrates significant contributions in the form of written documents, papers, books, museum displays or other forms of communication.

      Entry Requirements
      Description: Provide a complete description of the project outlining (as applicable) the following information: project background, context, purpose, intended audience, methods of research, presentation strategy, roles of key players, nature of heritage contribution, and other relevant information (max. 1000 words).

      Copy of Sample of Project: provide two copies of document or project material,  OR
      provide samples of representative material together with an overall view of the project (including physical context, if applicable). Submit sufficient information to clearly explain and exhibit the project.

      Documentation: provide three (3) copies of the book or other documentation. (Please advise Awards Coordinator if this request is not feasible).

    7. Environmentally Sustainable Rehabilitation: recognizes excellence in rehabilitation in which sensitivity to historic features supports and compliments responsible environmental design.

      Entry Requirements
      Description: Identify location, historic background and cultural significance of project. Provide an explanation of how heritage features of the building were restored or rehabilitated to increase energy efficiency. Explain how new work compliments the heritage value of the building and does so in ways that are environmentally sustainable. Describe how design and building functionality minimizes the environmental footprint of the structure and site (max. 1000 words).

      Drawings: provide drawings as required to describe the project (max. 6)

      Colour Photographs: provide 4-10 colour photos to sufficiently describe the project. Include at least one ‘before restoration’ photograph.

    Submission Requirements


    1. Provide 2 CD copies, clearly labeled with the Category and Project Name, containing the following information (in Microsoft Word format):

      • Entry Form Information: download the entry form HERE.

      • Project Description (max. 1000 words): refer to category requirements.

      • Drawings and/or Colour Photographs: refer to category requirements and provide if applicable.

        Provide images in jpg format (500kb – 1mb per image)suitable for print and web.

    2. Provide one printed copy, 8 ˝” x 11”, of all information submitted on CD.

    3. Heritage Communication category only, submit copies of book, report etc. as applicable.

    4. Include $50 entry fee (payable to 'CAHP'). Please include one entry fee per submission.

      There is no limitation on the number of submissions permitted.

    5. Projects frequently include significant contributions by several CAHP team members.

      In order to provide additional copies of an award, add $20 to the entry fee for each additional CAHP team member to receive a copy of the award (max. 3) Clearly identify the additional CAHP members.
