The Loss of Heritage Properties in Ontario
Ontario

Project Description:

This study grew out of a concern that many designated and listed buildings were being demolished in spite of the existence of the Ontario Heritage Act. Data from twenty-two communities around the province was collected, analyzed and presented. Cited in the campaign literature of the Ontario Liberals in their policy statements on Culture, this report appears to have played a key role in demanding the revision and strengthening of the Heritage Act in 2005.

Jury Comments

The jurors felt this project, while in a language heard by the government, exposes how poorly/unevenly our heritage inventories are managed across the province.
