Announcing the Formation of Ontario the Chapter of CAHP…OAHP!

The CAHP Board’s Transformation Plan outlines the evolution of CAHP into a chapter-structured organization for the purpose of fostering local involvement and member services, increasing membership and growing profile and relevance of the organization. Last year CAHP saw the creation of its first Chapter in British Columbia. On March 1, 2008, a social event was held at the Arts and Letters Club in Toronto and attended by approximately 45 CAHP members who were interested in the idea of an Ontario Chapter. The result of the meeting was the creation of an Ontario Chapter Working Committee. This Committee included Phil Goldsmith, Chris Borgal, Ken Hoyle, Jim Alexander, Will deBacker and Sean Fraser and was directed to report back to the membership at the Collingwood CAHP AGM on the development of a Ontario Chapter. During the intervening months the Committee met on several occasions to develop principles for the chapter, determine the preferred relationship, roles and responsibilities relative to the national organization and to explore a fiscal model for the chapter’s administration. The group has also put forward a list of benefits associated with the creation of a chapter. On June 1, 2008, at the CAHP AGM in Collingwood, the working group presented these findings to the CAHP Board and the Ontario Chapter was given its provisional status with full Chapter status, including incorporation and drafting of the founding by-law, anticipated for January 1, 2009. The interim OAHP Board plans to hold its first meeting in late June and will be circulating its preliminary documentation to Ontario members in the next few months.
